Looking good!

March 18, 2010

Isabelle underwent the first of three surgeries today. The best news is that they were able to keep her eye. They removed the tumor and put chemo beads under her eyes, to kill any cells they might have missed. She went through the surgery very well. She has another treatment April 15th, and then again May 15th. They will put more chemo beads under her eyes. She is shown here with her surgeon Dr. Ruth-Anne Richter.

Isabelle got her first bath today! The weather was nice and warm. Putting on a lot of weight isn't she?

It's been three weeks and already you can see a difference in her overall appearance. Note that her rear end and front is a bit fuller! She still has a long way to go, but she is getting there.

This one is a "before" --->

Isabelles' surgery has been scheduled. They have given me a month to get weight on her. It is scheduled for the 18th of March, she is supposed to be there on the 17th at noon, so they can evaluate her. She is having it done at:
Surgi-Care
605 Bloomingdale Ave
Brandon, Fl
813-643-7177

Any donations towards her surgery would be greatly appreciated!!! Although you can mail us a check, it would probably be easiest for you to call Surgi-Care directly with a credit card or (credit card) debit card to do so. Just say it's for Isabelle's (from 'Ohana Rescue) eye surgery. Any amount you could spare would be appreciated, they add up.

Sheriffs came out today and said that whatever I was doing was working because the eye was looking a lot better. They said that as soon as they see weight going on her then they can bring charges, because then there is proof that they were starving the horse.

With this girl I am learning to give shots...ugh!
The vet said that she needed more penicillin intake that I have been giving her, so that starts today, plus she went down yesterday hard, and there was no getting her up, so she had to get a shot of benamine, which it is so much cheaper me being able to buy the stuff and giving it myself, then having to have the vet over every time... I will be honest with you, it scares the shit out of me.. I am so afraid that I am poking it in the wrong area. They say a horse can take it in the hind end also in the muscle, but she doesn't have any, so her poor neck is covered in knots from all the shots. I try to go back and forth on the different sides of her neck.

A week later the people called me and asked me to come get her. So I picked her up (1-21-10) and notified the sheriff. Here are her day one pictures. I am not sure if you can tell but in the pictures, her one ear is split in half, and the other is folded back healed that way.

Neighbors called in the sheriffs after watching another horse on the property die. I also received a call about the horses. I went over there and tried to take the one that was alive, and they said no. I gave them one of our cards. Later I get a call from the sheriff.  I told them that the owners said no, but would think about it.
